Research

The Academy for Teacher Excellence (ATE) is offering research awards as an opportunity for professional development to faculty and doctoral students in the College of Education and Human Development (COEHD) who have expertise and a desire to engage in research activities that support ATE objectives:

  • conduct research around issues affecting the quality of education that diverse students receive;

  • provide faculty development opportunities designed to enhance their instruction of a diverse student population at the higher education level through revised course syllabi and teaching methods;

  • support the academic preparation of Hispanic and low income students to pursue an education degree and teacher certification particularly in bilingual education, special education, mathematics, and science instruction;

  • provide counselors opportunities to learn and seek ways of becoming more effective in guiding, retaining, and graduating diverse and low income students; and

  • establish linkages with community colleges and school districts that create a seamless system of education that is culturally and linguistically sensitive to a diverse student population.

These research awards will support projects designed to provide new insights and solutions to problems and issues associated with the education and retention of Latino and low-income students at the K-16 level. Research awards will be made for three-month to one-year projects. Continuation proposals will be considered for longitudinal research.
