The purpose of this Cross-cultural Language and Academic Development (CLAD) website is to provide a comprehensive resource on the philosophy, methods and public policy issues in educating language minority students. Dr. Mora's objective is to create an easily accessible link between university scholarship, K-12 educators and the general public to disseminate current information about pedagogically sound principles and practices in language education. Additionally, her greater purpose is to ensure equal educational opportunities for linguistically and culturally diverse students in public schools.
This website will provide bilingual educators, parents and administrators information with the current research, conferences and legislative issues on bilingual education at the state level and the national level.
Here you will also find the Affiliate Toolkit which will provide the name of the contact person for the San Antonio Area Association for Bilingual Education (SAAABE). SAAABE also organizes a professional conference in the spring.
Provides the same information as TABE above but on a national level. Research conducted on issues dealing with Bilingual Education worldwide will also be available here. Current federal policy is analyzed in reference to how it impacts the bilingual programs and specifically our English Language Learning (ELL) population.
NABE also organizes an annual national conference which usually takes place each January.
Two-Way/Dual Language Education continues to show great promise for the academic and linguistic success of language minority children, and for the development of biliteracy for all children. This approach emphasizes equality of educational opportunity for both English and non-English-speaking children through an educational process that validates and fully develops both languages and instills a mutual respect for both language learners.
