What is A-TEP?
How will ATEP help YOU become
a "highly qualified" teacher?

The Accelerated Teacher Education Program (A-TEP) is a Transition to Teaching program funded by the U.S. Department of Education.

A-TEP is designed to prepare and certify mathematics and science secondary teachers.

A-TEP recruits recent college graduates or second career professionals with degrees in mathematics and science fields to work in San Antonio area public schools, as secondary teachers.

Dr. Belinda Bustos Flores
Principal Investigator

A-TEP will facilitate your teacher preparation and certification processes by enrolling you in an accelerated preparation program at UTSA.

A-TEP will work with specific school districts in the San Antonio area to place you as a teacher of record while you are preparing for certification in the State of Texas.

Upon completion of program, you will qualify to apply for a secondary teaching certificate issued by the Texas State Board of Educators Certification office.

A-TEP participants can have their university certification work apply towards a master's degree, (subject to appropriate approvals).
